When we moved out of the development with all the trails, my running life took the plunge. Certain life changes - including getting to know the Lord better - have challenged me for that morning run slot that I love so much. But things seem to be opening back up. I might do 3-4 mile runs during the week, and a 5-6 miler on the weekends when I get the chance. Every step is a blessing.

I encourage anyone out there who has had an experience like my first surgery to at least investigate whether a second surgery could make a difference. I can't imagine what life would be like now if I had not taken that chance.

This whole experience reminds me of a scripture:

I'm not just trying to give out advice. I seek to remind myself of these things every day. experience the joy and accomplishment of training for and running a marathon. So I praise and thank Him first and foremost for that gift, but also for all that I learned.

  • Personal growth takes work - whether it is physical, emotional or spiritual. But if we train and prepare ourselves, we can persevere.
  • The secret to overcoming is often "mental," as it is with running. Truly the biggest barrier in running is learning to entertain yourself in your head as you run. Once you do that, the physical part comes easily. Other challenges in our life are often the same.
  • Believe. Faith is such a big part of our journey.
